Goose Hollow Studios is a Limited Liability Company (LLC) structured as a worker-owned and -directed cooperative. This means that the people who put their talent and labor into creating the studio’s value have the opportunity to be its owners. In other words, capital investment alone does not provide an opportunity to gain ownership. People who invest their time and energy can be owners; people who only invest money cannot be owners.
This structure places major decisions in the hands of those committed to doing the work. Such decisions include which projects to work on, how any profits are allocated, and how the studio interacts with the broader community. In our current economic system, the people actually doing the work and creating the value are oftentimes not the people making the decisions or receiving the full benefits of their work. We don’t feel right about this inequity, so a cooperative structure seems like a good shift towards fundamental economic change.
