Goose Hollow Studios is a Limited Liability Company (LLC) structured as a worker-owned cooperative. This means that those who put their talent and labor into creating the studio’s value have the opportunity to be its owners. In addition, capital investment does not provide an opportunity to gain ownership. People who work can be owners; people who only invest money cannot be.
This structure places major decisions in the hands of those committed to doing the work. Such decisions include things like which projects to work on, how any profits are allocated, and how the studio interacts with the broader community. In our current economic system, CEOs and Boards of Directors make these decisions, not the people actually doing the work and creating the value. We just don’t feel right about such an unfair system, so a cooperative structure seems to best way to go.
